Lady Gaga

A few weeks ago, we watched a segment of 60 Minutes that featured Lady Gaga. She talked about how she focused on becoming famous and she sees fame as an art form. This is why she thinks of herself as a performance artist. She likes being creative and puts a lot into her performances on stage for her fans.

When talking about her life, she mentioned being bullied in school and feeling like an outsider which lead her to feel insecure about herself. She said she was able to let go of most of her insecurities when she changed her name to Lady Gaga. She also stated that she wants her fans to know they have the freedom to become what they want to be and they can all be superstars.

Music and performing is Lady Gaga's creative outlet and she used it to become famous. This video shows the students they can do whatever they want with their photos and artwork. Everyone has the potential to do great things and they should not be afraid to take risks.

Animo Venice!

Champions has added Living Histories Photography and Multimedia art classes to Animo Venice! The multimedia art class will meet Mondays and the photography/video class will meet Wednesdays. The first class will be tomorrow, Wednesday, March 30th, in the computer lab: 3:30 - 5 pm. Hope to see you all there!

Community Service with Living Histories

My name is Brianna Bellmar and I am a student at California State University, Long Beach. I am taking a community psychology class and community service with a local non-profit community organization is a component of the class. The goal of community service learning is to enhance learning through reflection on the connections between information covered in class and actual experiences in the community.

I am volunteering at Animo South LA High School and the students in the photography class are very talented. I am already learning from this experience that our youth has a great amount of talent and many of them just need a creative outlet to showcase what they can do.

Opening Reception of "Perspectives"

Below are photos from tonight's opening reception of the Perspectives art show at Starbucks in Huntington Park. It features photographic work from high school students at three different Green Dot charter schools: Animo Ralph Bunche, Animo Pat Brown, and Animo South LA. The show will be up through most of January. So if you haven't seen it yet, stop by!

"Perspectives" photo exhibit at Starbucks!!

Opening reception of Perspectives is this Friday, Dec. 17th, from 6 - 8 pm at Starbucks in Huntington Park!! Featuring photographic works from three Animo high schools: Ralph Bunche, Pat Brown, and South LA!

ASLA Got Talent!

Champions hosted a talent show today showcasing the various creative flairs of students from Animo South LA. There were live performances of singing, dancing, rapping, skateboarding, guitar solos and more! Living Histories also showcased the visual, fine art work of Photography Club members, Shardae, Breann, Kinnedy, Jayla, Darrian, Michael, Kamry, Sherika, and Angelic. Below are images of the event and the photos exhibited.
